Duo Eamon commission

This was an ideal experience. Cassandra, fiddle player for the band Duo Eamon, contacted me about creating artwork for their website. Although her initial idea had been a drawing of the players in a rural setting, she reconsidered letting me do what I specialize in: still-lifes. She even took the time to set up several versions of the objects that are personally relevant to her and left me free to do my thing. No micromanaging, no last minute changes. I couldn't be happier with the results.

Caffe Appassionatto Roaster

A former student from my first year of teaching with Seattle Schools in 1998 suggested I come sketch the coffee roaster where she works. It was challenging drawing through the highly reflective glass that separates the roasting room from the café, but it was a pleasant hour spent with a delicious latte, on the house. Thanks for the idea, Maitland!

Zoka Coffee

Since moving a mile south of our old place, Zoka's has become our morning stop on the 2-mile walk to the

gym. They've already memorized our orders, and often give us multiple punches on our frequent-flyer cards. Most importantly, the music is low-key and the atmosphere library-like, though the many bookshelves are oddly empty.

I drew the interior years ago with the Sketch Pistols, a Seattle-area drawing group.

Shambala Sun Illustration

I'm happy with how much room they gave my drawing of clutter for this article on slow-cleaning as a form of mindfulness in the November issue of Shambala Sun Magazine.
